I have seen successful ways to stay in touch with our fans through promotions, contests, quizzes and sweepstakes. It allows our fans to be much more interactive with our brand and company as a whole. sand casting

The best thing to keep in touch with the people you know online is also not to go about and send them lots of things at once. Especially email. Whenever you would be sending them something. Let it be something of great interest.
My recent post Product Name

These are all great ideas. Rather than a basic newsletter, I have seen successful ways to stay in touch with our fans through promotions, contests, quizzes and sweepstakes. It allows our fans to be much more interactive with our brand and company as a whole. We have seen an increase in our fans through these types of promotions simply because we are offering them something more in return than a news brief. We used Wildfire's http://wildfireapp.com simple and custom tools for our promotions and contests.

Some great points here. I originally came to this post thinking it was about how to stay in touch with your Facebook fans. In the end, the points you stated still ring true. You can send out newsletters via Facebook (NutshellMail), giving fans a place to communicate (in comments by asking engaging questions), and live events (planning/promoting the live events via Facebook).
