There are many good points in this article. However, I think the medical industry should be more involved in the social media movement and in using the internet in general. I personally use the internet in hopes of finding information in the medical industry, only to be disappointed with the amount of information given. J House Media creates great medical websites - http://www.jhousemedia.com/service-profile.php?ID... - that would be helpful to most, if not all, patients.

In regards to social media, there are ways the physicians and other healthcare providers could use social media to their benefit. Here is a great article with a few reason why the medical industry should jump right in! http://tiny.cc/82c6h

Thanks for the great information!

It still amazes me how slow the health care industry has been in catching up with Web 2.0. I've just recently heard of doctors who are willing to answer emailed questions from their patients. I think the problem becomes how does the doctor's time get billed when interacting with patients online?

HIPAA laws and other privacy laws make it tough for health organizations to offer much in the way of social media. I was on a site recently that forced everyone to use an alias, but even that can be beaten, depending on what is posted. Maybe a better solution is forums?
