“Unfriend” is the 2009 Word of the Year, according to the New Oxford American Dictionary. The dictionary defines the word as “to remove someone as a ‘friend’ on a social networking site such as Facebook.” The nominee list was full of other social media terms, reflecting the growing importance of social networks.
