Fantastic interview - and fantastic points. Staff Sgt. Salmons' points are both well taken and important for charting the way forward.

It's great that there are people like SSgt Salmons in the DoD advocating social media, educating others on the power of these tools, and how to manage the risks associated with them. I heard him speak last year and he is a dynamic speaker. Beyond public affairs, we need to integrate Web 2.0 tools and concepts into all our business operations - from Pentagon blogs to wikis in theater. My experience has shown that convincing the top levels still requires some time and effort.

This was encouraging to read!

If yours is a company that is blocking, or threatening to block, employee access to social media apps, here's a helpful whitepaper on the subject. It's called “To Block or Not. Is that the question?”
<a href="http://bit.ly/9f8WOT" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://bit.ly/9f8WOT</a>

It has lots of insightful and useful information about identifying and controlling Enterprise 2.0 apps (Facebook, Twitter, Skype, SharePoint, etc.)

Share that with your IT Dept.
