Cool, right? The only trouble is that we can’t decide what to name our new baby. So we’re asking you to help.
Post your best ideas for what to name our new iPhone app in the comments below. We’re not Netflix, so there’s no $1 million prize involved, but you will get a chance at immortality, fame and (a little) glory as we celebrate the winner on this blog, on Twitter and in the SmartBrief on Social Media newsletter — which in total reach about 50,000 people each day.
The rules:
- All submissions should be posted as comments to this blog post. (Names submitted by e-mail, Twitter or carrier pigeon will be disregarded.)
- Try and keep the name to 20 characters or so. Extra points for brevity.
- You can enter as many times as you like, just make each one count.
- In the event that more than one person submits the winning name, the person who made the submission first will be the winner.
- Our selection criteria will be entirely subjective, and we’ll be tapping members of our awesome SmartBrief Social Media Advisory Board to help us pick the winner.
- The contest is open until midnight on Oct. 8.

She’s right. Any good Marketing person will tell you to stick to your own name. It’s already established and will save a lot of marketing dollars on your part trying to get people to associate a new name with Smartbrief. I just downloaded the Smart Brief iApp. Or I should call it the Dumb Brief! What a clumsy, muddled, ugly mess! Navigating through it is a weird guessing game. The main page is a mishmash of words in a bizarre glop of different font sizes is at best, confusing. The second page has a goofy graphic that sort of hints at some pages and the preview notes at the bottom just leave you wondering more than pushing you towards an interesting article. The touch areas are too large and far too easily touched to take you into unwanted pages. And there is no landscape viewing. I kept expecting to see something looking similar to the web based Smart Briefs and only after fumbling around did I find anything even remotely like what I’m used to seeing. But it is so jammed together and so small that without landscape viewing it just makes my eyes want to bleed to read any of it. Dump it and start over using actual iPhone users.

I think you need to work on the app before you worry about naming it. Too slow, can’t scroll when you need to, takes forever to load items and get rid of tags you don’t want. Terrible to navigate through, and you actually have to log into an item before you can delete it from the front page. Keep it on the internet, forget the iPhone app, time to delete it from my iphone.

I agree with other commenters that the best name may be “SmartBrief”. Other apps like Mashable, Yahoo!, USA Today, to name a few – have all stuck w/ named apps.
However, there are some that do not, such as: “Mobile Card” (Starbucks secondary app), NYTimes, TWC etc. So here are a few ideas…
