SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter.
Last week, we asked: Does your company have an employer branding strategy?
- I don’t even know what that means – 34%
- Yes – 34%
- No, and we’re not developing one – 24%
- No, but we are developing one – 9%
While progressive HR folks have been talking about employer branding for the last several years, you can see that the general population in workforce management is still exploring the idea. For the folks that didn’t even know what employer branding was, I would encourage you to seek out some information on it. Employer branding happens whether we intend to do it or not so it is important for all people to be aware of the image that candidates hold.

Thanks for sharing these stats, Lance. I’d be curious to get more details from the 34 percent that claim they have employment brand covered, however. Today, we hear that many of our clients are evaluating the steps they need to take to build employment brand, and I think a steady economic recovery is going to continue to increase the discussion around what and how to ensure a solid employment brand.
