With the collapse of the financial industry and layoffs occurring left and right, it’s no surprise that some people are rethinking their career paths and turning in a new direction. Marcus Marchegger, of Carson City, Nev., went from working as a mortgage broker to owning his own auto repair business, where he is thriving both emotionally and professionally. The lesson to take here may be that when it comes time to start hiring again, companies should look beyond people with direct experience to those with a good work ethic and set of core skills.
