Creative professionals need more space

SmartPulse — our weekly reader poll in Smartbrief on Workforce — tracks feedback from leading managers and HR practitioners. We run the poll question each Wednesday in our e-newsletter and feature analysis from Lance Haun, vice president of outreach for MeritBuilder, the main guy over at Rehaul.com and a member of the SmartBrief on Workforce Advisory Board on this blog.

Last week’s poll question: Does your company give idle time to allow better ideas to surface?

  • No, but I think they should start      66%
  • No, and I don’t think they should start      19%
  • Yes, and they should continue      14%
  • Yes, but I think they should stop      0.3%

“The big takeaway from this week’s poll was that many readers believe very strongly that creative professionals need space and time to decompress, but not too many companies are currently providing that breathing room. I have to wonder if this is one of those factors that could really define the top of class organizations. Allowing creative professionals the tools necessary to do their best work is going to be essential for growth during times of heavy innovation.” — Lance Haun
