The SmartBrief iPhone app debut is moving along, and we’re happy to report that we’re ascending the ranks in the News section in iTunes.

So far we have 750 downloads. This has positioned us as the No. 102 most popular news app (out of about 1,650) and No. 55 free news app. This moves us past such respected organizations as The Telegraph, The Kansas City Star and Variety, and we are rolling out more promotions in the coming weeks to hopefully move that number up.

In conjunction with the release, we are staging a “Name The SmartBrief iPhone App” contest. It has generated more than 260 comments as well as 23 tweets — clearly readers are excited about this. Take a look at some of the fantastic, funny and interesting submissions at SmartBlog on Social Media.
